Family FAQ

You asked:

I want to start a blog but there are so many web sites out there to choose from. How can I pick the right one for me?

The Online Family answers:

It's best to pick a blog host based on two things: your budget and your design needs. If you want a professional blog with a unique design, consider using TypePad or Movable Type. The design templates offered by TypePad are customizable and the service hosts blogs for subscription fees starting at $4.95 per month (or more if you want to operate more than one blog). Moveable Type is appropriate if you're going to work with a professional designer to create your blog and want to build custom features. Though it only costs around $99 to license the Movable Type software, you still need to pay an additional fee for web hosting.

If you're looking for no-cost options, there are a wide range of blog sites that are free. For free blogs, try Blogger, LiveJournal, WordPress and MySpace.

Tech Tip

Add Memory

If your two- to three-year-old computer is sluggish, instead of getting a new model, you might just need to add more memory. You can do this yourself -- see your computer maker's web site for instructions about where to install additional memory once you purchase it.
